Jail sentence for murdered Kemarni Watson Darby’s mother slammed as ‘insult’

Readers reacted with fury to the prison sentences handed down to Kemarni’s mother Watson Darby and her ex-boyfriend. Nathaniel Pope was locked up for life with a minimum of 24 years for the murder of the tot, who was just three when he died.

And the boy’s mother, Alicia Watson, was jailed for 11 years this week after being found guilty of causing or enabling his death. She was acquitted of her murder.

Pope was under the influence of cannabis when he delivered the fatal blow which split the boy’s abdomen and caused massive internal bleeding while alone with the youngster at their home in West Bromwich on June 5, 2018. The couple were also convicted of multiple children. cruelty matters following a trial that began in December and saw evidence presented to jurors for 10 weeks.

Black Country Live readers blasted the sentences against the couple on social media. One person said, “Life shouldn’t be let out of a life that the poor child suffered, so they should both suffer too.”

Another added: ‘Should throw away the key.’ Someone else asked, “How come the sentences are so low, man. It’s not fair, my little angel is flying high.”

Another person commented, “They both deserve life as in life.” Someone else said, “They should never be free to walk on God’s ground again.”

Another comment said, “Life should be for both and die in it.” Someone else agreed: “They shouldn’t both be disgusting.”

A social media user added, “That poor helpless little boy. It breaks my heart.” Another said: “They should both rot for what they did, fly with the little angels.”

And someone else called the phrases “an insult.” They said: “11 years is an insult!!”
